BIRFDEE FIC #2 (RAPID UNCERTAIN JAZZ HANDS)
"Just remember, darling, all the while... you belong to me..."
"Xion?"
Xion looked up from her gazing out the windowsill to the boy in her doorway, arrested with her head halfway through the motion of nodding to a beat only she could hear. Davesprite was watching her curiously, poised on toes as if unsure if he were allowed to breach the threshold. The warm spread of her smile was the only invitation he needed, and he tripped into the room, crossing to her and falling into her space, burying his face in her neck and tasting the way she laughed into the air.
"Hi, Dave."
He mumbled something that sounded like "hrngnbml."
"What?"
"Where'd you learn that?" He tilted his head up to nose at the joint where her jaw met throat, and Xion huffed. One of her arms hooked up under his, traveling up his back, and her fingers snaked their way into his hair.
"I found sheet music in the store. I keep wanting to learn music, you know. I still can't read it very well, but I keep trying. I only know a little bit more than that part, really. I can show you, if you want."
"Later." He tugged on her, and she groaned.
"Xiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii...."
He paused for a breath, and she groaned more loudly, though this time it was half a laugh, long and complaining as she smacked him.
"... on."
"Okay, okay!"
Soon they were lounging on her bed, Davesprite's tangle of gangly long boy limbs curled protectively around Xion as she burrowed into him. Her face was turned up into him like he was her sun and she could drink in his warmth. He pressed an adoring kiss to the tip of her nose and then wriggled until he could rest his chin on the top of her head.
"Sing it again."
"Like this?" her voice was a little muffled against his chest.
"Yeah. Exactly like this."
"But this is weird."
"Why's it weird? It's not weird, it's perfect. C'mon. Make like Celine Dion and croon for me."
"Who?"
"Canadian. Bad example. Please? I'll, like. I'll bake you a cake."
"Dave, you're a terrible cook."
"I'll. I'll get Jane to bake you a cake?"
"She bakes all the time anyway!"
"You drive a hard bargain. What's a guy gotta do to hear his girlfriend sing sweet ass tunes in his ear?"
Xion leaned up to press a kiss to the corner of his mouth before he could keep going.
"Tell her how much he loves her, maybe?" Her voice was shy, unlike the mischievous tucked-in curl of her smile.
Davesprite goggled at her.
"What? Holy shit. I love you more than Jack loved Rose. I'd swan dive off that door and touch down on the floor of the Atlantic to prove how much I love you and I wouldn't turn into a human popsicle doing it, fuck that guy. I love you so much more than romantic shit like the moon loves the stars. I can't believe I just said that. I love you so much it's like I can't believe how lucky I am every single day to wake up and realize I get to be with you and make you smile. I--"
This time Xion silenced him with a real kiss, and for a moment there was only silence and the sunlight that fell in golden sheets across their bodies and her bed.
"Okay," she murmured when she broke away, starry-eyed and sweet, "I'll sing for you."
See the pyramids along the Nile
Watch the sunrise from a tropic isle
Just remember darling all the while
You belong to me...
